Dry Mango Wood Pieces / Aam Ki Lakadi/Kaasth/Samidha for Hawan

Mango wood is one of the necessary ingredients for Havan (Hawan) / Agnihotra / Yagya /Yagna as per Sanatan Hindu scriptures. Dried mango wood pieces are recommended to be used as the main 'Hawan Kashtha' or the wood to keep the fire burning.

Sandalwood, Agar, Deodar, Bilva, Peepal and Bargad tree wood can also be used to perform Yagna. But they are all a bit less commonly available compared to Mango and therefore, Mango wood is the primary wood for Hawan (Havan).

Nature has presented many types of wood as gifts. But the use of mango wood in the Yagna is considered very auspicious and beneficial.

Other alternatives to mango wood?

There is doubt about the availability of mango wood, so the sages have considered the wood of milk tree useful for use in the scriptures. Peepal, banyan and Pakhar etc. can be used in place of mangoes, as ash is produced directly after burning these wood. Non-milk wood makes coal, which is not auspicious for Hawan.

Features of Mango

Mango wood starts burning due to the removal of carbon dioxide in small amounts, being highly flammable and even when moist. As much as possible, mango wood should be used in the sacrificial spirit according to the environment. When mango wood burns, a gas called formic aldehyde is produced which kills the dangerous bacteria hence purifies the environment.
