Havan or Homa is one of the most ancient Sacred Fire rituals in Hinduism being performed since the Vedic era in order to invoke the powerful energies of the Divine. Havan is also performed to seek blessings with a special offering to the Agni Devata while chanting the Sanskrit mantras. The Sacred Fire and the mantras fill the ambiance with purifying and auspicious positive vibrations and thus benefit everyone who is attending the Homa in a splendid manner. It purifies the body, mind, and soul, elevates spiritually, makes the mind calm, and offers a sense of tranquility.

Types of Havan Kunds Available As Per Scriptures

Yagya Kunds are basically physical designs to begin the Sacred Fire ritual, the reservoirs of energy or energy centers where all the divinity is invited and invoked. The shape of Havan kunds generates and stores a special energy field that possesses bacteriostatic properties. The unique shape of the Agni Kunda (or Havan Kunda) acts as a generator of spiritual energy fields and spreads them in its surrounding atmosphere.

As per the Sanatan scriptures, there are different types of Havan Kunds coming in various shapes and they are used according to the purpose in various sacrificial purposes. Eminent sage Shrimad Vitthal Dixit in his unique treatise “Mandap Kunda Siddhi” named them as Chaturastra Kund, Yoni Kund, ArdhaChandra Kund, Trikona Kund, Vritta Kund, Shadashtra Kund, Padma Kund, and Ashtastra Kund.

According to the difference in their shape, mainly three types of Kunds have been described –

Konaatmak (Angular) Havan Kund – which includes Trikon Kund, Chaturashtra Kund, Panchastra Kund, Saptastra Kund, Ashtastra Kund, Rudra Kund, Shattrim Shastra Kund, and Astachatvarinshastra Kund.

2. Vartul Havan Kund – Under this come Vrittukund, Ardhachandra Kund, Padam Kund, and Surya Kund.

3. Vishisht Havan Kund – Yoni Kund, Asikund, Kunt Kund, Chap Kund, Mugdar Kund, Shani Kund, Rahu Kund, Ketu Kund, Chandra Kund, Bhaum Kund, Budh Kund, Guru Kund, Shukra Kund, etc come under this.
